Griddle 101: Pancake Art

Pancake Art

Hello Friends,

I tried my hand at some pancake art on the griddle. I decided to do this as a Christmas theme and it turned out better than I thought it would. Now I am certainly not an artist, so if I can do this you definetly can as well. My son absolutely loved it, so if you have any kids or grandkids I definetly reccomend giving it a try. Hopefully the weather is warm enough to do it on the griddle next week, but even if it's not you can easily do this inside as well. It will probably just take longer because you can only do one or two pancakes at a time.

3 Tips

No Lumps

Normally I say do not over mix your pancake batter. It's kind of like muffins where a few lumps are good and if you over mix it will become chewy. However, for this application you might want to mix it a little more so the clumps don't clog up the squirt bottle.

If they do clog up the squirt bottle you can use a fork or toothpick to break it up. Don't keep forcing it out or it might explode on you and ruin a snowman like it did for me. Also, if you feel like the opening of your squirt bottle is too small you can make it bigger by cutting the tip with scissors.

Fill and Flip

You will do an outline of your design and let that sit for about two minutes. If you want, you can practice your outlines beforehand on some paper. I did that and it helped out a lot. After it sits for two minutes, fill in the outline with more pancake batter. Only let this sit fot 30 seconds or less before flipping. That is how you will get the contrast in color. The outline should be darker than the filled in area.

Rudolph

I was very shocked at how well Rudolph turned out. My wife had seen other people do this on instagram and reccomended it to me. I was hesitant because I'm not very artistic but like always, she was right. This was almost easier than the outlines and my son loved it. It also gave me a reason to make a pound of bacon, so it was a win for everyone!

I hope this inspires you to do some Christmas Pancake Art for your family, and that they love it as much as mine did. Thank you so much for reading these newsletters each week, it means a lot to me. I hope you and your families have a merry and safe Christmas. And if you're in a part of the country where it's too cold to griddle, just hang in there. It will be spring time before we know it!
